The central unit of the crime branch of Navi Mumbai police arrested three persons last week and claimed to have solved at least five cases of mobile snatching cases that took place under the jurisdiction of the Navi Mumbai police commissionerate in the last couple of months. The police also recovered stolen mobile phones and a scooty worth Rs 1.33 lakh.
The arrested accused were identified as Akash Rajesh Kamble, 22, resident of sector 14 in Koparkhairane, Siddesh Suresh Mourya, 26, a resident of sector 14 in Koparkhairane and Imran Jakir Shiakh, 30, a resident of Karave village in Seawoods-Nerul. According to the police, all three are unemployed.
The officials of the central unit of the crime branch received information that two to three persons were coming near D mart in Koparkhairane to sell stolen mobile phones. They laid a trap and when two of them came over there, they were caught with a scooty used for the crime. “They were roaming across the city and taking advantage of lonely roads, they used to snatch mobile phones from people talking over them,” said an official from the crime branch.
The police recovered four mobile phones and a scooty from them worth Rs 1.33 lakh. With their arrest, the police solved five cases of theft lodged at Nerul, APMC, Vashi, Turbhe and NRI police stations in Navi Mumbai.
