Miguel Cabrera announced that he will be returning for his 21st and final MLB season in 2023. Cabrera burst onto the scenes in 2003 with the Florida Marlins helping the Fish win their 2nd World Series in franchise history. He is undoubtedly one of the three best hitters of his generation, and a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. It has been a storied career that apparently has one more chapter to it. He’s one of 7 players with 3,000 career hits and 500 career home runs. But I’ll be honest here, it feels like he’s hanging on when he should ride off. He had 43 RBI in 397 at bats last season. He did hit a respectable .254 (respectable by current MLB standards). But what good is a baserunner who can’t run the bases? Anyway, I don’t want this to turn into bashing Cabrera- good for him.
As I said, Miguel Cabrara’s career dates all the way back to 2003. There have been a lot of changes since Cabrara burst onto the scenes as a rookie. I thought it would be funny to take a look at things younger than Miguel Cabrera’s MLB career. Cabrera debuted for the Florida Marlins on June 20th, 2003. He went 1-5 on his debut with his lone hit being a 2-run homerun. It was a meaningful homerun as well. The FLORIDA Marlins beat the Tampa Bay DEVIL Rays 3-1 on that day.
