Thief’s cruel note for Aussie uni student while stealing her laptop

A brazen thief has stolen a university student’s laptop and left behind a cruel, mocking note.

After-school care worker Rachel, 22, received a call Wednesday morning from a colleague saying her laptop had been stolen from the Seaforth Community Center in northern Sydney and the thief had left her a message.

“Sorry, you should take security seriously. Blame the council and get a refund for your laptop. Sowwy (sic),” the note reads, with a drawing of a sad face.

Rachel said she only bought her laptop a few months ago and had not paid it off yet

“It was really infuriating to see the note,” she told 7NEWS.com.au.

As a self-proclaimed “broke uni student”, Rachel says she cannot afford to buy a new one.

The primary and early education student said since her laptop is a personal device, and not for work, it is not covered under work insurance and the council was not liable either.

“All my assignments, all my work stuff is on there and I’ve got uni next semester and now I’ve just got to try to work out what to do,” she said.

Rachel reported the matter to the police, who arrived within the hour to investigate but now it was just a waiting game.

The 22-year-old is calling on anyone who recognizes the handwriting or knows anything about the theft to contact the centre.

“We will not press charges if they can contact me to give it all back. Otherwise the forensics team will be taking fingerprints from the paper and they will find out who took it and they will be prosecuted,” she wrote online in a plea for information.
