These New Laptop Docks Support Two 4K Displays And Work With Apple’s Latest MacBooks

Expanding the ports and connectivity of a modern laptop is an excellent way of adding extra displays and peripherals with minimal fuss. ALOGIC has just announced two new universal docking stations designed for Macs, PCs and even Chromebooks.

The new docks will be available in Display Port and HDMI flavors and are an ideal way of extending the versatility of Ultrabooks, Chromebooks or Apple MacBooks. The docks offer a choice of twin DisplayPort or HDMI ports, enabling the connection of two external 4K (3,840×2,160) displays with a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Thanks to DisplayLink technology, the docks can connect to USB-C or USB-A ports on a laptop. Both models are compatible with Windows, Chromebooks and Apple Mac laptops, including Apple’s latest MacBooks powered by the company’s M1/M2 silicon.

In addition to the two video outputs, the CD2 and CH2 docks also have a USB A and a USB C data port with a 10Gb/s transfer rate. The USB-C power input port can handle 100W of pass-through power. There’s also an SD 4.0/UHS-II card reader and Gigabit Ethernet port, but no 3.5mm audio jack for headsets and headphones, so if that’s something you need, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

The square format of the new ALOGIC docks is compact enough to slip into a work bag. A few more USB ports would have been welcome because you can never have too many ports for connecting all those external drives, keyboards and mice.

Pricing & Availability: The ALOGIC CD2 and CH2 Laptop Docking Stations are available globally from today and cost $199.99, £160 and €192.
