The NBA could return to playing games in Mexico as early as December

The NBA could be heading back to Mexico for a game in December to the delight of local fans.

There is a chance that Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs could play a game in Mexico City in December of this year.

The news has been reported by the South Florida Sun Sentinel who said that the game will take place on December 17.

In 2019, the teams that played in Mexico City were the Spurs themselves, the Pistons and the Suns. The Heat last went in 2017.

Former Heat player Dion Waitersnoted at the time how amazing it was to play there: “I just found out that Mexico City was actually bigger than New York. That’s crazy.”

Erik Spoelstra also noted the great atmosphere in the city: “I was pleasantly surprised to walk around and see NBA games on TV everywhere we went, and the fans recognized us. I felt like we were in Miami.”

On the other hand, Juan Toscano-Anderson noted that playing in his country and in Mexico City is unique: “Mexico City is one of the most amazing cities in the world and I’ve been all over the world.

“You could try to compare it to New York City, maybe Los Angeles a little bit, maybe Chicago, but it still doesn’t do it any favors.”

Tickets to the game could be an excellent early Christmas present to NBA fans in Mexico.
