Adam Gold describes why the Carolina Hurricanes are one of the best teams in the NHL. The Canes have been getting goal-scoring from a wide variety of players.
what a difference a week makes. Remember a week ago we sat here and we were just relieved that the Carolina hurricanes had won a hockey game and they broke a five game losing streak. Well the hurricanes have now won four in a row, a bonafide winning streak. Ladies and gentlemen, here’s the thing, during that five game losing streak, we talked about this actually weren’t playing that badly. They just had a hard time scoring goals, still creating chances, just not getting the result. Well, starting to get the results, starting to get the results from places that we hadn’t seen before. George Martin has been good throughout. He had a hat trick in ST Louis on Thursday night, but a couple of goals from Brett pesci game winning goals, including one in Pittsburgh. Seth Jarvis is now in a five game point streak. So we’re starting to see the depth scoring show up. That’s what makes Carolina so dangerous that you can’t just concentrate on the nature. So is a hose fetch the costs of the world and by the way, all three of those guys scored in the win in LA last night. Look, the hurricanes are one of the best teams in the NHL, they’ve played pretty well. They just hadn’t gotten the results, they’re now 14, 6 and five, still eight points in arrears from the New Jersey Devils on top of the division will see the devil’s in Raleigh in about two weeks time, but obviously you still have to keep playing well And a lot of that has to do with the goaltending. How about Pook Chekhov, this rookie is 10th in the NHL in save percentage. He is 51 and three and he’s just precocious enough not to remember any better. He performed pretty well in the playoffs, not great, but pretty well in the playoffs under some pretty trying circumstances when Freddie Andersen was hurt and by the way Freddie Andersen is still hurt. He still has not practiced with the team, so there’s no timetable for when Anderson may return to the team and Antti Raanta has been dealing with some lower body issues so we might seek a Chekhov play a bunch hurricane schedule actually sets up for him to play maybe the next 345 games in a row. So the hurricanes are playing well 14, 6 and five, as I mentioned, still three games left on this road trip, they’ll be in Anaheim on Tuesday, then they have a few days off before going to the Islanders on Saturday and then the Detroit red wings on Tuesday again before coming home Eventually they’ll be home, you know, they’ve only played consecutive home games this season. Once, that’s it once when they get out of Detroit, it’ll be 28 games into the year. Not too bad considering
