“We appreciate our neighbors from LCU wanting to come down 19th for a practice match this early in their preseason,” head coach Tom Stone said. “We have been going since August 2n.dso it was a nice break for us to be able to compete with another team and see where we are both individually and as a group.”
Tech and LCU squared off in a series of three 25-minute segments featuring unique lineups. For the Red Raiders, Madison White stayed in goal for all three periods, where she boasted a clean sheet.
The first 25-minute period saw Tech take an early 2-0 lead. Ashley Williams kicked off the scoring affair, using her stealth to punch in an unassisted goal. With the help of Elise Anderson, Giselle Kozarski tallied the second goal of the night 15 minutes into the first period.
In the second 25-minute period, the Red Raiders recorded three goals, two of which were scored by one of Tech’s 10 freshmen (Taylor Zdrojewski and Teah Vloedman). Senior Penelope Mulenga capped off the second period scoring, giving Tech a 5-0 lead heading into the final 25 minutes of action.
The final period gave the opportunity for another freshman, Peyton Parsons, to get in on the scoring action. She took a pass from Zdrojewski to give Tech a 6-0 lead. Kaitlyn Giametta tallied the last Tech goal of the night, nailing a shot from outside the 18-yard box, in her first action in a year due to injury.
The Red Raiders will trek to Denver for one final exhibition Friday night before kicking off the season at home on Aug. 18th against Troy.
