Teradek, based in Los Angeles, California, is probably the best-known manufacturer of wireless video solutions. They have recently announced Prism Mobile, a lighter and smaller solution for 4K HDR wireless video transmission with a wide range of 4G LTE connectivity. It is now available for pre-order for $4,990. Let’s take a closer look!
When it comes to wireless video transmission, there are a lot of different solutions on the market, like the FEELWORLD W1000H HDMI Wireless Video Transmission System but also many challenges, like reliability, image quality, latency time, maximum transmission range, connectivity, affordability and so good
In terms of reliability, you might often wish you could just use a cable instead, but in many different situations, you have to trust a wireless transmission solution. For example the Teradek Serv Micro – a fair-priced HDMI Wireless Video Transmitter with streaming options.
Teradek Prism Mobile: features
Teradek just announced the new PRISM MOBILE HEVC/AVC Video Encoder with Dual 4G LTE modes. The light and compact encoder can mount directly to the back of an ENG camera and provides 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 inputs and several different transmission output options, supporting high-resolution video up to 10-bit 4K HDR in 4:2:2 with stereo or even 5.1 surround sound. It supports low-latency HEVC/H.265 and AVC/H.264 streams via cloud applications like Teradek Core or RTMP/RTSP/SRT to servers and CDNs.
Teradek Prism Mobile comes in three different versions: in a V-Mount or a Gold Mount version for $5,450 or without a battery plate mounting solution for $4,990. It can also be mounted to a camera or a cage using the 1/4″-20 mounting threads.
Yet, none of this is new in the market, which might not really justify the price range in which these devices are offered. The real advantage of the new Prism Mobile is versatile connectivity: In some challenging locations, you might not be able to establish a reliable connection using the standard transmission. Then, various alternative network options built into Prism Mobile will make a difference, so you can still stream 4K on the go.
Using the two onboard internal 4G LTE modems with dual switchable SIM slots, Teradek Prism Mobile should allow you to reliably establish a secure 4K HDR video stream via cellular networks. Alternatively, you can also use external node modems via USB, 4 cell phone hot spots, an Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi networks. Prism Mobile supports bonding with any combination of streaming outputs up to a total of nine networks, and you can also record your stream to an SD card, using the internal SD card slot.
Prism Mobile has a small OLED display, a web interface via LAN or Wi-Fi, and there is also a Prism app for iOS available, that provides all configuration and control options.
The Prism Mobile transmitter is part of the Prism Series, Teradek’s flagship encoder and decoder line, and the portable Prism Flex transmitter and the multichannel System Prism Rack Unit.
