Tennessee baseball’s top 5 moments in super regional win from Blake Burke to Chase Burns

In Tennessee baseball’s three games against Southern Miss in the Hattiesburg Super Regional, the Vols had a handful of magical moments that put the fans in the stands on their feet.

From big strikeouts to huge home runs, here are the top five moments for Tennessee baseball from the super regional that helped the Vols reach the College World Series:

Blake Burke’s big home run

In case you were wondering if the baseball has made its way back into Earth’s atmosphere, it probably hasn’t.

On Sunday during Game 2, first baseman Blake Burke regained the UT lead at the top of the fourth inning with a 479-foot moonshot.

If that number wasn’t impressive enough, the 114 mph exit velocity should be.

Chase Dollander’s defensive comeback

After a gritty start in Game 2, right-handed pitcher Chase Dollander kept his composure after a four-run marathon in the third inning all while pumping gas.

With his offense playing catchup with six runs in the fourth, Dollander went on to retire 18 out of the next 20 hitters he faced.

Along with his seven strikeouts through eight innings, the future first-round MLB Draft pick topped out at 97 mph.

Three-run shot in Game 3 for Zane Denton

Third baseman Zane Denton extended Tennessee’s lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning of Game 3 with a huge three-run home run.

The Vols were able to keep the Golden Eagles’ offense quiet, but the single run on the board wasn’t enough to calm the nerves.

He hit his fourth home run of the postseason in Game 3 to bring his total to 16.

Chase Burns’ clutch relief appearances

There is no doubt that right-hander Chase Burns is a dominant arm for the UT bullpen, and he proved just that in the series in both relief appearances.

However, the most memorable of the two would be in Game 3 when he topped out at a whopping 102mph.

His reaction after striking out two Golden Eagles though − even better.

Some good old-fashioned trash talk

Postseason baseball can’t be played without some high-tension trash talk being exchanged between either team whether it’s players or the fans in the stands.

During Dollander’s outing Sunday after a big strikeout against hard-hitting infielder Dustin Dickerson, there was an exchange of words between the pair as they both walked off the field.
