A LOCAL computer technician stumbled upon what was believed to be marketing materials to recruit job scam victims when he was asked to service a customer’s laptop, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The technician uploaded a post on Facebook claiming that a Chinese national had approached him to help back up data on his laptop.

When preparing the data for backup, the technician discovered spreadsheets and notes containing phrases such as “inaction is what causes you to fail”, “don’t wait any longer” and “our company is recruiting local and foreign workers”.

One of the files, titled “Domestic Work Overseas Work Template”, stated a basic salary of RM15,500 not including commission for roles including online customer service representatives, salespeople and human resource executives, and that no prior work experience was needed.

The technician posted photos of the files online and said he believed the customer was a recruiter for illegal scam call centers luring Malaysians abroad.

After the post became widely shared, many Internet users urged the technician to submit the evidence he gathered to the police to help crack down on these syndicates.

> The daily also reported that Malaysian singer-actor Eison Cai Ai Cheng was found dead outside the Luzhou MRT Station in Taipei on Aug 17.

The death of the 40-year-old Sarawakian came as a shock to many as he had said he was planning to return to Malaysia in September to introduce his new wife, actress Hitomi Wang, to his family.

The couple married in 2020.

According to Taiwanese media reports, the singer has had a tumultuous past couple of years, beginning with the winding up of his laksa restaurant chain in Taipei’s Ximending neighborhood – a casualty of the pandemic.

“We could no longer bear the losses,” he explained in a livestream in April. The report also said Cai had marital woes.

The singer rose to fame after winning the second season of the Taiwanese TV talent show Super Idol in 2009.

The police are currently investigating his death.
