WhatsApp offers call link feature, group voice calling with up to 32 participants and group video calls with up to 8 participants and more with its calling feature. While Android and iOS users often prefer WhatsApp calls over cellular calls, WhatsApp web users are still a bit confused about how to use WhatsApp calling feature on their PC.

How to do WhatsApp desktop calling
WhatsApp desktop calling feature is only available for WhatsApp app for web.
The app supports-
- Mac OS X 10.10 & higher
- Windows 10 & higher (64-bit version)
- Windows 10 & higher (32-bit version)
To make free WhatsApp voice and video calls install the WhatsApp app from your Microsoft store or Mac App Store. Additionally, to make or receive calls on WhatsApp Desktop you will have to connect an audio output device and microphone to your PC. Also grant WhatsApp permission to access your computer’s microphone and camera.
Notably, WhatsApp web does not support group calls. So, users can only make individual voice or video calls.
How to make video or voice calling on WhatsApp Web
- Open the individual chat you want to make a call with.
- Next click the video call or voice icon.
- You can also mute or unmute your microphone during a call by clicking the Microphone icon or turn your camera off or on by clicking the Camera icon.
How to switch between voice and video calls on WhatsApp web
During a voice call you can request your contact to switch to a video call or. The receipt can accept the switch of calling mode by clicking OK or Switch to switch the call or Cancel to decline.
To switch calls
- Hover your mouse over the camera icon during the call.
- Click the Camera icon.
- Your ongoing voice call will switch to a video call if your contact accepts the switch request.
