Sycamore Soccer Class Previews: Sophomores

Leading up to the regular season, we will take a deeper look into each class on the Sycamore roster. This edition features Indiana State’s seven sophomores who are looking to make an impact in year two.

Alexa Mackey – Defender

A Brunswick, Ohio native, Mackey was one of the key pieces of the Sycamore defense in 2021. She started in all 17 matches while logging 1559 minutes of action which was good for second most on the team.

Olivia Lovell – Forward

Coming to Indiana State from Waukee, Iowa, Lovell appeared in 12 matches as a freshman in 2021. Logging 324 minutes of action, she played a career-high 43 against Missouri State and Southern Illinois while attempting two shots on the season.

Nora Henderson – Midfielder

A graduate of Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee, Henderson appeared in 16 matches as a freshman while making two starts. She recorded six shots with two on goal in 518 minutes of action, scoring her first career goal on August 29 against UT Martin.

Chloe Tesny – Midfielder

The Medina, Ohio native played in all 17 matches for the Sycamores as a freshman, making nine starts. Tesny attempted nine shots with six being on goal, scoring three times while also adding an assist in 858 minutes of action.

Maddie Helling – Midfielder/Defender

A graduate of Union High School in Union, Missouri, Helling started eight of the Sycamores’ first nine games before an injury cut her season short. She made two shot attempts in 728 minutes of action, which includes a career-high 110 actions at UNC Asheville.

Caitlin Mullen – Midfielder

From Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mullen played in eight games for the Trees while making four starts. She finished her freshman campaign with 419 minutes of action including a career-high 104 in an overtime contest against Northern Illinois. Mullen attempted three shots with one on goal.

Mackenzie Kent – Forward

An Aurora, Indiana native, Kent played and started in all 17 matches while logging 1069 minutes of action. She finished tied for second-most goals on the team with five, attempting 29 shots with 15 on goal. Also dishing out a pair of assists, Kent was named Honorable Mention All-MVC and picked as an All-Freshman Team selection.

The Sycamores will begin their regular season on Thursday, August 18 at 8 pm ET when they travel to take on SIUE. Indiana State’s home opener will be on Sunday, August 21 at Memorial Stadium where they will host Northern Illinois at 1 pm ET.
