Sycamore Soccer Class Previews – Juniors

Leading up to the regular season, we will take a deeper look into each class on the Sycamore roster. Indiana State returns seven juniors to the roster and added an eighth via transfer.

Maddie Alexander – Goalkeeper

The Battle Creek, Michigan native returns for her third season in net for the Sycamores. She finished 2021 tied for first in MVC play with 56 saves which gave her 132 for her career to move her into sixth all-time at ISU. Alexander was named an All-MVC Second Team selection.

Katie Yankey – Midfielder

After starting 16 of 17 matches in 2021, the Floyds Knobs, Indiana native was named to the All-MVC Second Team. Yankey logged 1585 minutes of action, scoring one and dishing out three assists. She was also named to the MVC Honorable Mention Scholar-Athlete Team.

Carly Hudnall – Forward

The Noblesville, Indiana native appeared in 15 matches in 2021, logging 371 minutes of action and recording four shot attempts. She played a career-high 47 minutes in a double-overtime game against UNC Asheville.

Carly Jensen – Midfielder

In her second season out of Ankeny, Iowa, Jensen played in 11 matches while logging 259 minutes of action. Recorded a shot on goal against UNC Asheville and played a career-high 44 minutes against Northern Illinois.

Audrey Stephens – Forward

From North Aurora, Illinois, Stephens played in all 17 matches, making nine starts. Playing 810 minutes, she attempted 15 shots including eight on goal. Scored the deciding goal in the 2021 season opener against Eastern Illinois.

Chloe Pettigrew – Defender

A native of Newton, Iowa, Pettigrew established herself as one of the anchors of the Sycamore defense, playing and starting in all 17 matches while leading the team with 1618 minutes on the field. She was named to the MVC All-Tournament Team.

Josie Bakaitis – Defender/Midfielder
Bakaitis joins the Sycamores as a transfer after two years at Illinois State. The Chesterton, Indiana native played and started in 29 matches and was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team in 2021. Her father Jeff was a member of the Indiana State Track & Field team from 1993-97.

Sasha Thompson – Forward

The Terre Haute native played in all 17 matches while making 12 starts. Thompson attempted 10 shots with seven on goal in 774 minutes of action. Her five goals were good for fifth in the MVC while she led the Sycamores with three assists. Scored twice in Indiana State’s 3-1 win at UNI last season.

The Sycamores will begin their regular season on Thursday, August 18 at 8 pm ET when they travel to take on SIUE. Indiana State’s home opener will be on Sunday, August 21 at Memorial Stadium where they will host Northern Illinois at 1 pm ET.
