MONTREAL — Birthday boy Nick Suzuki participated in the Canadiens’ first-ever Twitter Space on Wednesday.

The topic of conversation? Country music and the upcoming LASSO Montreal festivalwhich will be held on Friday and Saturday at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
The Canadiens’ center will be in attendance, along with a large group of friends, to watch the likes of Brittany Kennell, Old Dominion, Dierks Bentley, Kelsea Ballerini, and Luke Bryan hit the stage and perform.
Suzuki is a longtime fan of the country genre, so the LASSO dates have been circled on his calendar for quite a while.
“I probably started listening to country like 10 years ago. It just kind of started in the hockey scene and I jumped on board. I’ve been a big fan ever since,” said the three-year NHL veteran, who chatted alongside Kennell. and CHOM 97.7 radio host Jason Rockman. “It’s going to be my first country festival in a while, so I’m really excited to get over there.”
Suzuki listed artists Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen as his top picks right now, but it’s safe to say he’s eagerly anticipating Bryan’s set on Saturday night.
The London, ON native still listens to his 2013 album entitled Crash My Party at every opportunity.
“There’s a lot of good albums. For me, Luke Combs, the last couple of albums that he’s put out, I pretty much know every word,” confirmed Suzuki. “An older one is a Luke Bryan album that I always listen to. It has the songs ‘Crash My Party’ and ‘Roller Coaster’ on it. That’s one of my favorites.”
Country music of all types genuinely resonates with the sniper.
He appreciates the deeply personal words and imagery that often accompany the catchy tunes.
“The artists do such a good job of relating to people, and I think people can really connect to the music and the lyrics. Just the story behind the songs, that’s kind of the way I listen to them,” explained Suzuki. “I’ve always been a big fan, and it’s definitely a lot of fun being there listening to the live artists and getting to hang out with all the people.”
Suzuki doesn’t own a pair of cowboy boots, so he “may need to get some” rather quickly to go with the special LASSO collection gear he plans on wearing this weekend.
He’s also in the market for a guitar, too.
“I can play ‘Smoke on the Water.’ I don’t know if that’s very impressive,” said Suzuki with a laugh, when asked about his musical chops. “My brother is actually trying to teach me a little bit. He’s pretty good. But, I don’t have a guitar. I’ve always wanted to get one. It would be awesome.”
Fans, don’t be surprised if you come across a few more familiar faces around the venue as well.
Suzuki is actively recruiting Josh Anderson and some prospects to join him for the event.
