Sudbury Wolves sent four to NHL rookie camp

With a 10-day break between OHL pre-season games, four Sudbury Wolves players were to depart this week for NHL rookie camps.

Free-agent invitee Evan Konyen, one of the Wolves’ leading scorers in 2021-22 with 50 points in 66 games, was to fly out Tuesday to join the Vancouver Canucks for the Young Stars Classic prospect showcase, running Sept. 16-19 in Penticton, BC and also featuring entries from Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.

NHL-drafted Wolves attending camps include defenseman Jacob Holmes, the Dallas Stars’ fourth-round pick in 2021, as well as forward David Goyette, the Seattle Kraken’s second-round choice in 2022, and defenseman Nolan Collins, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ sixth-round pick. round selection in 2022.

Sudbury had 26 players on its pre-season roster as of Tuesday, including 16 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies. The Wolves are 2-1-0-0 in pre-season play, having defeated the Peterborough Petes 5-1 this past Saturday.

They return to action on Sept. 20, hosting the Barrie Colts, before finishing off their exhibition schedule on Sept. 23 with a home game against the Soo Greyhounds.

Both games start at 7:05 pm

Sudbury opens the regular season at home on Sept. 30, also against Barrie.
