Steph unveils Curry 10s with adorable help from Riley originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
How time flies.
In a tweet on Friday afternoon, Steph Curry unofficially unveiled the Curry 10 to help celebrate his daughter Riley’s 10th birthday (Riley’s actual birthday was July 19).
For context, Riley helped Steph choose Under Armor when he was a sneaker free agent back in 2013, despite being courted by Nike and Adidas. It only makes sense for Riley to be one of the first people to see the Curry 10 aside from Steph himself.
ESPN’s Nick DePaula also spotted Steph wearing the Curry 10 at his camp.
The Curry 10 is Steph’s 10th signature sneaker with Under Armor and he is only the 10th player in NBA history to get 10 signature sneakers. The other nine are Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Allen Iverson, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Derrick Rose.
It’s also important to note that while the Curry 9 was the most recent shoe, Curry wore the Curry 4 FloTro en route to his fourth NBA championship. The Curry 4 FloTro combines the Curry 4’s upper and the Curry 9’s tooling (midsole, cushioning, outsole).
In 2020, Under Armor launched the “Curry Brand,” as a competitor to Nike’s Jordan Brand. Additionally, Steph’s previous sneakers are also getting “retro’d,” meaning the first handful of models are getting re-released with newer technology.
That said, the Curry 10 is an evolution of the Curry 9 tech-wise, featuring Under Armour’s Flow cushioning in the midsole and what appears to be a mesh upper.
When speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Jarrel Harris about the Curry 10, Steph said there is a “sense of completion” and there is also consistent evolution in terms of technology and innovation with the Curry 8, 9, and 10. Steph added that acknowledging the past is important as well as paying attention to the present.
“I like the fact that we can make sure the 10’s are highlighted but bringing in the retros and the lifestyle stuff as well,” Curry said.
