Steph Curry praises Kevon Looney’s 20 rebound performance in Game 3 vs. Kings

While Steph Curry led the way with 36 points in the Golden State Warriors’ much-needed win over the Sacramento Kings in Game 3 at Chase Center on Thursday, Kevon Looney fueled the home team with a clutch performance on the glass.

Without Draymond Green due to suspension, Looney came up big in the frontcourt in Game 3 against Damontas Sabonis. While the Kings All-Star big man recorded 16 boards, Looney registered 20 rebounds of his own. Looney grabbed 11 of the Warriors’ 13 offensive rebounds on Thursday night.

Following Looney’s 20-rebound performance in Game 3, his teammate had nothing but praise for the Golden State center. Curry called Looney “relentless,” saying his performance was “amazing to watch.”

Yeah, he’s relentless. I don’t know what that probably feels like, but it’s just the way the ball, the angles, your effort, knowing that it’s going to be physical. You’re going to get knocked around but he’s ready to take all that physicality. And then he has to guard a tough matchup on the other side. He knows how to be effective when he’s out there. He’s shown it plenty of times before.

Nine offensive rebounds are huge for us to give us extra possessions. We were getting pretty solid looks for most of the game, but we just weren’t hitting a lot of them. He was getting us extra possessions and that gets the crowd into it, it gets out momentum on our side. It’s amazing to watch.

In the Warriors’ 114-97 win on Thursday, Looney finished Game 3 with four points on 2-of-6 shooting from the field with 20 rebounds, nine assists and a steal in 31 minutes against the Kings.

With the series locked at 2-1, Looney, Curry and the Warriors will be back at Chase Center to host the Kings for Game 4 on Sunday at 12:30 pm PT in San Francisco.
