Sports Wrap: St. Cloud Tech Boys Soccer Bests Apollo, Makes State Tournament

8AA Championship

St. Cloud Tech 2, Apollo 1: The Tigers take the postseason showdown between cross-town rivals. The Eagles got on the board first, as Abdirehin Iman scored in the 35th minute. Tech was able to tie it in the second stanza when Sougui Hussein found the back of the net in the 59th minute, assisted by Amin Yusuf. The match remained tied at one until there were four minutes remaining in overtime. The winning goal came off a free kick from Abdimalik Ahmed. Tech advances after entering the sectional bracket as a third seed. They had to win a couple of overtime games on their way to the title. State tournament brackets will be announced Saturday.

High School Volleyball

St. Cloud Apollo played at the Upsala tournament Thursday. They dropped matches against the host squad, Crosby-Ironton, Osakis, and Swanville in straight sets.

Milaca was also in Uppsala. They won 3-1. The Wolves fell in a three-set match to Holdingford. The wins were against Swanville (2-0), Crosby-Ironton (2-1), and Bertha-Hewitt (2-1).
