College Hockey
The Huskies Men’s Varsity Hockey Team improved to 4-0-0 with a road sweep of Wisconsin. The squad won 5-1 Friday, breaking a scoreless tie at 3:56 into the second period. Grant Cruikshank was assisted by Micah Miller. Cruikshank assisted on the second tally, a short-handed goal by Grant Ahcan at 13:11. Cooper Wylie lit the lamp 61 seconds later. SCSU got two more late in the third.
The Huskies won 2-1 Saturday. Once again it was Grant Cruikshank with the initial tally at 18:23 into the second period. He was assisted by Kyler Kupka and Veeti Miettinen. Corson Ceulemans tied it up for Wisconsin at 8:34 in the third. SCSU’s Kyler Kupka notched the game-winner with the man advantage at 13:58 of the final frame.
The women’s team hosted #4 Wisconsin at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. They were swept, including a 5-0 loss on Friday. The team bounced back from being shutout to push the Badgers to overtime Saturday, where they fell 3-2. SCSU’s Jenniina Nylund got both goals for the home team. Wisconsin tied it up with 1:01 left in regulation and Caroline Harvey scored just over three minutes into the extra frame.
College Football
St. John’s University 49, St. Olaf College 10: It was a dominating win for the Johnnies for the second straight week. Saint John’s went on the road to Northfield where they dispatched of St. Olaf College. The Johnnies got on the board 1:10 into the game when quarterback Aaron Syverson connected with Nick VanErp, covering 58 yards to the end zone. Syverson would throw four more TDs, including three to Alex Larson. The Johnnies stay at #5 in the latest NCAA Division III poll after the win.
College Volleyball
Concordia-St. Paul 3, Saint Cloud State 0 (16-25, 12-25, 19-25): Husky volleyball split on the weekend, dropping the Friday match at #2 C-SP. Linsey Rachel and Kenzie Foley led SCSU in kills, the only players to break into double figures. Keely Kurschner had 13 digs on the back end.
Saint Cloud State 3, Winona State 1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16): Back at the friendly confines of Halenbeck Hall on Saturday, SCSU rallied to get the win. Linsey Rachel had 19 kills, set up by Emma Berran’s 46 assists. Phebie Rossi secured four aces. Kenzie Foley and Keely Kurschner had 13 digs apiece.
College Soccer
The SCSU Men’s Varsity Soccer Team lost its only match this week, a 4-2 home loss against Saginaw Valley State. Philip Caputo notched both Husky goals less than three minutes apart late in the first half. The Cardinal’s Jonathan Monney scored the game-winner in the 75th minute.
The women’s squad split a road set. The team was shut out by Augustana Friday, 2-0. They bounced back on Sunday, blanking Wayne State. Jada Dachtler got the contest’s only score in the 12th minute. She was set up by Gracie Parsons. Wayne State managed only three shots on goal.
High School Volleyball
Brainerd 3, St. Cloud Apollo 0 (8-25, 15-25, 7-25): Played on Friday evening.
Bemidji 3, Sartell 2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 13-25, 15-17): A razor-tight match goes in favor of the Lumberjacks. Brenna McClure recorded 20 kills, along with three solo blocks and five assisted blocks. Ellie Rengel added 16 kills. Libero Avery Templin led the team with 33 digs. Grace Schulte was the Sabres’ primary setter. The match was played on Saturday.
Cathedral played in a tournament at Benilde-St. Margaret’s Saturday, going 2-2. They defeated DeLaSalle (2-1) and Holy Family (2-1) but fell to the host team (1-2) and New Life Academy (0-2).

Boys
8A Semifinals
St. Cloud Cathedral 4, Central Minnesota Christian 1: Joseph Torborg was the only player for either team with two goals. Philip O’Neal was the primary set-up man, dishing out two assists for the Crusaders. The Section 8A championship is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Sauk Center. The Crusaders will face the Fergus Falls Otters.
Girls
8AAA Semifinals
Sartell-St. Stephen 2, Buffalo 1 (OT): The Sabers undefeated season survives one of its sternest tests yet. Sartell defeated Buffalo on Saturday in penalty kicks, 3-0. Saber keeper Anna Lundeen slammed the door and the team advances to a Tuesday championship match versus STMA at 4:00 pm
8AA Semifinals
East Grand Forks 4, St. Cloud Tech 0: Kara Ellis notched a hat trick for the Green Wave.
8A Semifinals
Cathedral 2, St. John’s Prep 0: Hope Schueller and Nora Simones scored for the Crusaders. Keeper Amelia Newiger made four saves to pick up the shutout.
