The Moose Jaw Events Center is about to become a very busy place in the coming days. The boys will be back in town! The Moose Jaw Warriors getting set for a promising, new Western Hockey League season. The Warriors’ first pre-season game is coming up a week from Friday, at home, against the Swift Current Broncos.

Local and area golfers are invited to sign up soon for the Labor Day Classic Golf Tournament at the Hillcrest Club. Drive the Green Golf is putting it on. It’s a two-player best ball championship with a ton of great prizes, food and fun. Call the Hillcrest and get registered.

The Strictly Fences Hamilton Flats slo-pitch season came to a close with the Diamond Runners going undefeated to take the title for the 7-3 division.

It will be a busy couple of days at the Hillcrest today and tomorrow….as we host tryouts for the first-ever University of Regina varsity golf team. Young golfers will be competing for 10 spots today and tomorrow to try and crack the Cougars roster. Players will tee off at 10:05 am Monday and Tuesday.

In case you missed it, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were winners on the weekend in Vancouver – a 23-16 win over the BC Lions. The Riders improved to 6-5 on the season. They’ll host Winnipeg in the Labor Day Classic on Sunday at 4:00 pm game time at Mosaic Stadium.

And the Toronto Blue Jays had a tough weekend – they got swept by the LA Angels. 8-3 was the final on Sunday. The Jays are still hanging on to the final wild-card playoff spot in the American League but are just a game-and-a-half ahead of Baltimore.
