NORMAN, Okla. – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders dropped their match against the No. 17-ranked Oklahoma Sooners by a 4-0 score on Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
It was a tough day for the Red Raiders (4-1), who would lose their first doubles point of the season at the hands of Oklahoma (5-2).
Oklahoma would take the point when Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley defeated Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova on court one, 6-0, then the Sooner duo of Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman would clinch the point at court three against Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp6-3.
On court two, Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea were locked in a battle with the No. 22 doubles pair of Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth, 4-4, when the point was won.
In singles, OU led on all courts after winning the first set in six matches. The Sooners increased their lead with a win on court three when Guzman defeated Komac, 6-1, 6-1.
Their third point came at court four after Emma Staker beat Tiglea by a 6-3, 6-1 score. The Sooners would clinch the match when No. 86 Pisareva defeated freshman Andrea Lila over at court six, 6-2, 6-0.
When the match was clinched, Sayfetdinova was about to force a third set over No. 91-ranked C. Corley after dropping the first set, 6-3, and going up 5-2 in the second set.
The Red Raiders look to bounce back with a home match against SEC-foe Auburn on Feb. 5 at The McLeod Tennis Center.
