Soccer: Sporting prosecutor requests 9-pt penalty for Juve – English

(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 20 – Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) Prosecutor Giuseppe Chine’ on Friday requested that a sporting tribunal hand Juventus a nine-point penalty in Serie A over allegations that it inflated earnings from player transfers on its balance sheets, sources said Friday.
The prosecutor requested that former Juve chairman Andrea Agnelli be banned from involvement in soccer for 16 months, former director of sport Fabio Paratici, now with Tottenham Hotspur, be banned for 20 months and 10 days and other former directors be banned for 12 months.
The Serie A giants appointed a new board on Wednesday after Agnelli and the other directors quit in November amid a probe by Turin prosecutors into allegations that the club had presented false information to investors about its accounts in recent years.
The accounts of the club, a listed company, have also come under the scrutiny of the Italian stock-market regulator Consob.
Criminal prosecutors are also looking into allegations that the Serie A club made secret salary payments after declaring that players had agreed to take wage cuts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Juventus are currently third in Serie A with 37 points from 18 games, 10 points behind leaders Napoli. (ANSA).
