Soccer: Napoli won’t let Reds demolition go to their heads – English

  • by

(ANSA) – ROME, SEP 8 – Coach Luciano Spalletti has said Napoli won’t let Wednesday’s 4-1 demolition of Liverpool in their opening Champions League match at the Stadio Maradona go to their heads.
“We were superb tonight and thoroughly deserved the win,” he said.
“It’s a great result, especially considering the caliber of the opposition.
“We played our game without letting up. Liverpool are a world-class side and my players produced a top-quality performance.
“My team is strong, ambitious and wants to win every match.
“Now we have to keep our heads down and carry on working hard.
We won’t get carried away. It was a great performance but we have to do it again in our other games.
“There’s no arrogance. When you play for Napoli, that’s how you should play every match”.
Napoli, who are in Group A, were the only Italian side to win their opening Champions League match this week.
Inter lost 2-0 at home to Bayern Munich in Group C on Wednesday, while Juventus lost 2-1 at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in Group H and Serie A title-holders AC Milan drew 1-1 at Salzburg in Group E. (ANSA).
