(ANSA) – ROME, OCT 12 – AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli said he overcame the language barrier to give referee Daniel Siebert a piece of his mind over his decision to send off defender Fikayo Tomori and award Chelsea a penalty in the early stages of Wednesday’s 2-0 home defeat to the London club in the Champions League.
The decision, which heavily conditioned the match, was extremely harsh as the pull by Tomori on Chelsea’s Mason Mount did not look enough to justify a spot kick, never mind a red card, according to many commentators.
Jorginho scored the penalty and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the visitors’ lead while Milan were still in shock.
“I told the referee what I thought at the end of the match,” Pioli told Sky.
“My English is not very fluid. I think he understood.
“Football is a contact sport. That was never a penalty and it was never a red card”.
With two games to go, the defeat leaves Milan third in Group E with four points, three points behind leaders Chelsea.
“The team is sure to react,” Pioli said.
“It’s a negative result, but our destiny remains in our hands”.
