Soccer Falls In Home Opener

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – A late rally brought the Central Michigan soccer team its first goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Chippewas fell on Sunday, 2-1, to Marquette in their home opener at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.

Megan Logue delivered the big header for the Chippewas in the 79thth minute for her first career goal. The goal came off a corner kick taken by Ashley Scesniak.

The Golden Eagles’ goals came in the 44thth minute and the 57th minutes by Molly Keiper and Isabella Cook, respectively.

CMU (0-2) had three shots on goal and took seven corner kicks. Marquette had five shots on goal and six corner kicks and finished with a 9-8 edge in shots.

CMU freshman goalkeeper Emma Shingler made three saves, bumping her season total to four.

Six Chippewas attempted a shot. Jaelyn Dobrowolski led with two.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) opened the season on Thursday with a 3-0 loss at No. 16 Notre Dame.

CMU will take to the road and play Michigan State in a nonleague game on Thursday, Aug. 25 (7 pm) at the Spartans’ DeMartin Soccer Complex.
