Soccer: Allegri laments mental lapse as Juve break UCL duck – English

(ANSA) – ROME, OCT 6 – Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri said he was not completely satisfied despite seeing his side pick up their first points of the current Champions League campaign by beating Maccabi Haifa 3-1 in Turin on Wednesday.

With Angel Di Maria on song, Juve claimed all three points, with Adrien Rabiot grabbing a double and Dusan Vlahovic finding the net too.

But Allegri was not happy that his men allowed the Israeli side to pull a goal back when they were 2-0 up and briefly reopened the contest.

“The match went well until the goal was conceded,” Allegri said.

“We were good and did well to find the goal to make it 3-1 (after they scored), but we dropped a little mentally at the end.

“The boys are very intelligent and have already understood, excluding the goal (for us), what went wrong in the last quarter of an hour”.

Juve are third in Group H with three points, four behind joint leaders PSG and Benfica.

AC Milan suffered a setback when they went down 3-0 at Chelsea on Wednesday.

The seven-time European champions are third in Group E with four points from three games, level on points with second-placed Chelsea and one behind leaders RB Salzburg. (ANSA).
