SILVER CREEK — At a recent Silver Creek Board of Education meeting, the district filled multiple open positions, including two new teachers, a teaching assistant, and a new varsity boys soccer coach.

Jon Pulver, a member of the 2018 Silver Creek Black Knights Section VI Champion baseball team, has been appointed as the new head coach for the Black Knights varsity boys soccer team. Pulver is a graduate of both Silver Creek High School and SUNY Fredonia. He is a high school teacher at Silver Creek. His father, Scott Pulver, is a member of the Board of Education and abstained from the vote to approve the appointment.

Also approved by the board at the most recent meeting was the hiring of Rachael Schneider as a Teaching Assistant, of Holly (McLaughlin) Carrol as a Special Education Teacher, and of Danielle Jakubowicz as an Elementary Teacher.

All three positions are standard probationary appointments. Jakubowicz was in attendance and received a warm welcome from the board. She was also thanked for her work with students during summer school this summer.

The new hires approved at the most recent board meeting are joining a district undergoing major changes at the administrative level. Silver Creek appointed Heather Krystofiak as the new Elementary Principal and Shannon Matson as the new Elementary Assistant Principal at a Board of Education meeting in July. New High School Principal Kyle Yelich, who replaced Thomas Buczkowski late last school year, also enters his first full year as a Silver Creek Principal.

School supplies and meals — breakfast and lunch — will also be free of charge once students return to school, as the Community Eligibility Provision still applies to the district.

“We will provide your child with all the materials and supplies they need to be successful learners,” the district assured parents and guardians in the 2022-23 back to school edition of the Silverliner newsletter. “Your child must bring a backpack, a comfortable pair of shoes, and a smile daily.”
