SHORTS: MLB LONDON, ECB, ARSENAL

UK-based sports marketing agency CSM Sport & Entertainment (CSM) has been re-appointed to support Major League Baseball (MLB) in bringing regular season games back to London in 2023, 2024 and 2026.

Baseball will return to the English capital next year with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs playing a two-game series at London Stadium in June 2023. This follows the inaugural MLB London Series in 2019 when Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees played out their historic rivalry across two thrilling games at the same venue.

CSM will once again be responsible for event marketing, ticket strategy and sales, hospitality product development and sales, strategic planning and production of venue operations, player transportation, sports presentation and the wider fan experience on game days.

Premiership rugby union club Gloucester Rugby has announced an agreement with software services company Appsbroker which will see the UK-based company become the club’s official data partner.

Appsbroker is one of the largest Google Cloud partners in Europe and will work with the club to improve data analytics across the organization.

Lance Bradley, Gloucester Rugby CEO, commented, “This is all about improving the way we gather, manage and use our data, so that we continuously improve the experience our fans and business partners have when they’re interacting with us. From our first meeting, Appsbroker impressed with their real-world knowledge of how to enhance our digital performance.”


Surrey County Cricket Club Chair Richard Thompson has been announced as the new Chair of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and will take up his new role from 1st September 2022 for a five-year term.

Richard Thompson said, “Cricket has given me the chance to meet an incredibly diverse range of amazing people. Their passion, endeavor and love for the game is what I want to harness, to take our game forward, to new heights across England & Wales.

“Cricket should be the most inclusive sport in the country, welcoming people from all backgrounds, helping bring communities together. For those communities where we have fallen short, I will work tirelessly to restore their trust in the game.”


According to The Athletic, Premier League club Arsenal has appointed Karen Smart as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Smart has joined Arsenal from Manchester Airports Group (MAG), where she most recently worked as the company’s managing director.

It is understood Smart, who replaced Hywel Sloman, began her new job last week. The role oversees the stadium, all facilities, IT and travel, and sits on the executive board.


English Football League (EFL) Championship football club Barnsley FC has announced that blockchain certificate of deposit platform HEX.com is the club’s new front of shirt sponsor and principal partner for the 22/23 season.

The deal starts immediately and will include the branding of the front of the shirt in all domestic competitions, LED advertising around the pitch plus other significant promotional assets.


Visit Dorset, Dorset Council’s tourism team, has announced that it will be one of the official sponsors of Stage Seven of the Tour of Britain.

The Tour of Britain is the UK’s most high-profile cycle race which takes place every September across eight days and eight stages. It features Olympic, world and Tour de France champions racing against British home stars. Stage Seven is the penultimate day of the race as the eight-stage event works its way down from Aberdeenshire to the Isle of Wight.


The Premier League has appointed Iain Webb as its new Head of Commercial Projects.

Webb joined the Premier League from Fulham FC in 2014 and has since worked in a number of roles within the organisation. Most recently, Webb has been operating as a Senior Partnerships Strategy Manager.


British professional boxing promoter BOXXER has appointed Matty Lawless as its new Head of PR.

Lawless joins BOXXER from Oliver Agency, where he spent over a year as a Senior Campaigns and Engagement Manager.
