SAN JOSE, CA – The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed defenseman Scott Harrington to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Scott came into camp on a tryout, performed well, and earned his contract,” said Grier. “He’s a high character person and we are excited to have him join the Sharks.”

Harrington, 29, was signed to a professional tryout agreement with the Sharks on Sept. 9. He has recorded one goal and two shots in two preseason games thus far in 2022-23. Harrington spent the previous six seasons in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, earning 37 points (seven goals, 30 assists) and 69 penalty minutes across 185 NHL games.

The defenseman appeared in seven games for the Blue Jackets in 2021-22, posting one assist, and collected seven points (three goals, four assists) in 50 American Hockey League (AHL) games with the Cleveland Monsters.

In 210 NHL games with Columbus, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Harrington has registered 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists) and 77 penalty minutes. At the AHL level, he has scored 46 points (11 goals, 35 assists) in 193 games.

Internationally, he has represented Canada at the U18 World Championship (2011) and World Junior Championship (2012, 2013).

The six-foot-four, 204-pound native of Kingston, Ont. was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round (54th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
