DAVIE, Fla. – Several homes at a Davie mobile home park were badly damaged by a possible tornado as Hurricane Ian strengthened into an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm on Wednesday morning.
Local 10 News spoke with residents at the Sunshine Village Mobile Home Park in the 13000 block of Fifth Street in Davie.
Ivan Mendoza, a Sunshine Village Mobile Home resident, spoke with Local 10 news and described the moment he and his 4 family members woke up in their Davie home that was violently shaking.
“My daughter came out crying—my niece came out crying,” said Mendoza.
Mendoza said he and his kids got tornado alerts on their phones around 2 am on Tuesday and felt the immediate impact.
“Not even 20 seconds later we were feeling it already inside the house so there was no time to react,” said Mendoza. “It was just everybody get together and that’s it.”
Almost every homeowner in the area told Local 10’s Saira Anwar that the storm left them without power.
Sky 10 was seen flying above the scene on Wednesday morning as residents took inventory of the damage trying to figure out if anyone still has electricity.
Davie Police were on scene Wednesday morning assessing the damage and speaking with neighbors.
Crews were spotted working to restore power to the affected homes after the terrifying night.
“It’s like you’re inside an airplane with the engine next to you,” said Mendoza. “That’s what you heard— Turbulence.”
According to officials, no one was reported as injured in the storm’s aftermath.
