Deshaun Watson’s return to the NFL is on the verge of happening with the Cleveland Brownsthat offered him a multimillion-dollar contract in the offseason despite sexual misconduct allegations he has since played for the Houston Texans.
Following an NFL investigation, Watson was suspended for the first 11 games of this season, so his return to the gridiron is imminent. However, it won’t be the quiet return he was hoping for.
Several women will be demonstrating at his return
Attorney Tony Buzbee said at least 10 of the QB’s female accusers plan to attend the Browns game to make a statement, “We’re still here. We care.”
Of the 24 lawsuits against him, Watson has settled 23 and the three most recent ones ended in confidential settlements. Deshaun has maintained
“Some of my clients asked to go,” said Buzbee, lawyer for the plaintiff. “They thought it was important to make it clear that they are still here and that matters. I was proud of them for that. I made that opportunity available to them. I haven’t been to a Texans game in many years. But, since they’re going, I’m going.”
The accusers’ attorney, approving of their bravery
“I think it’s important to point out that each of these women is different. You can’t paint them with a broad brush. I would never encourage any of them to attend. Some never want to hear Watson’s name again. Others have left it in the past. Ssome are still angry. Others are defiant. I’m proud that they want to stick up for themselves rather than walk away quietly. Good for them.”
Speaking to ESPN, Buzbee added, “They want to make some kind of statement, ‘Hey, we’re still here. We’re important. Our voice was heard, and this is not something that’s over. Sexual harassment and sexual assault happens every day in America.’ “
Watson’s initial suspension was six games without pay, but was increased to 11 games.
“I apologize once again for any pain this situation has caused,” Watson said a few weeks ago.
“I take responsibility for the decisions I made. Going forward I will focus on working to become the best version of myself on and off the field and supporting my teammates however I can while away from the team. II’m excited for what the future holds for me in Cleveland.”
