Seven Wildcats in Top-Five in Final Day of Texas Tech Open & Multis

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the final day of the Texas Tech Open & Multis on Saturday (January 28) at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.

K-State distance runners shone as multiple Wildcats ran in each event, seven of them placing in the top-five and earning personal bests.

Senior Stephen Kielhofner finished third in the men’s mile run with a personal best 4:14.04, with junior Jack Vincent right behind with a personal best of his own, three tenths of a second faster, at 4:16.39 in fifth place in a field of 34 runners. During the men’s 3000 meters junior Hadley Spletcher finished in the top-two with a time of 8:32.51, sophomore Tommy Hazen placed fourth at 8:38.92.

Junior Sydney Burton finished second in the women’s mile run 4:55.67. Junior Hannah Stewart finished fourth in the women’s 3000 meters just shy of 10 minutes at 9:58.69. Freshman Cecilia Fisher finished behind her at fifth with a new personal best time of 10:12.68 in just her second attempt in the event.

Additional distance top-tens included junior Jessica Carraway (8th; 2:18.62) in the women’s 800 Meters, freshman Grace Meyer (6th; 5:05.63) in the mile and junior Cailan Steward (7th; 10:26.28) in the 3000 meters.

K-State also landed in the top-ten in field events, as a sophomore Marcus Gelpi (7th; 2.05m/6-8.75) in the men’s high jump, junior Devon Richardson (6th; 15.25m/50-0.50) in the men’s triple jump and sophomore Grace Thompson (10th; 14.28m/46-10.25) with three attempts in the women’s shot put.

During the women’s 4×400 relay, the Wildcats collected a seventh-place finish at 3:41.90 from juniors O’Shalia Johnson, Shalysa Wray and freshmen Twain Johnson and Delaney Wrightcontributed to their fastest relay.

The Wildcats head to Albuquerque, NM on Friday (February 3) for the two-day New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
