Seahawks make Ronde Barber’s list of the NFL’s top secondaries for 2023

The Seahawks defense is not a dominant one by any stretch of the imagination. Last season they struggled mightily against the run for all but a handful of games and never consistently got pressure on opposing quarterbacks. One exception to the rule was the play on their back end, which came together quite well in the second half of the season.

Since then they’ve added a No. 5 overall draft pick in former Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon and signed the highly-underrated utility DB Julian Love. With a healthy Jamal Adams returning to the lineup (in theory), this might even be one of the best secondaries in the league. At least one guy who knows what he’s talking about thinks so, anyway.

Writing for the 33rd team, former NFL cornerback Ronde Barber has put Seattle on his list of the league’s best secondaries, coming in at No. 5.

“Now, this might be a little bit of a reach, but I love these guys. They have potential at cornerback. We know what Tariq Woolen did last season. They drafted Devon Witherspoon no. 6 overall out of Illinois this season. That’s a combination set up for long-term success… At safety, they have Quandre Diggs, who had four interceptions to lead the team last season. If Jamal Adams comes back from injury after playing only eight snaps, it’s hard not to like this group.”

Indeed it is.
