Saratoga boys and girls teams claim first place at Suburban Council Tournament – ​​Saratogian

CLIFTON PARK, NY – Suburban Council golfers teed off bright and early on Friday morning at Van Patten Golf Course for their annual league tournament.

Saratoga’s boys and girls teams each earned first place, with the boys team leading second-place, Shaker, by 17 strokes. The girls won a tiebreaker with Guilderland, to claim the Suburban Council title.

Saratoga junior Kellen Dean shot the top score overall in the 18-hole tournament, with a 68, five-under-par. Shen’s Eric Spoth shot a 71, which was two-under-par and Saratoga sophomore Charlie Greiner shot a 72, at one-under. The trio were the only members of the field to shoot under par.

Carter Sica was seventh overall, shooting a 76 for the Blue Streaks. Charlie Blake (79), Henry Parobeck (83) and Rory Seritella (85) rounded out the remaining scores for Saratoga, for their team score of 463.

Shaker posted a score of 480, good for second place. They were followed by Shen (495) and Guilderland (497), with boys’ team scores decided by the top six-of-eight competitors.

The girls’ Suburban Council Tournament featured a nine-hole round, with Saratoga and Guilderland tied at 122 after everyone had finished. Team scores for the girls’ division are determined by the top three-out-of-four golfers. In this case, the fourth golfer on each team would break the tie.

Saratoga junior Emily Landau led the entire field with a low score of 35, while Maria Jackson posted a 40 for the Blue Streaks. Sierra Borden and Sophia Jackson each shot a 47, with Borden’s score officially counting towards the top three scores.

Guilderland was led by Hanna Mitchell’s 38, the second-best overall score in the field. Megna Naidu shot a 41 and Jane Fanning was close behind, with a 43.

Tied at 122, the tournament came down to each team’s fourth golfer. Sohpia Jackson’s score of 47 clinched the tournament title for the Blue Steaks, beating out Guilderland’s Bridget Burke, who posted a 62.

All teams will return to regular league matches next week, before sectionals begin in early October.
