Samsara And T-Mobile Create An “Un-Carrier On” That’s Hard To Lose

Samsara, maker of one of my favorite AirTag-enabled carry-on bags, has teamed up with T-Mobile to create a carry-on that you’ll have to work hard to lose.

T-Mobile’s expanded their service to feature coverage in more countries as well as in-flight on major carriers and they want a bag that also sports an expanded feature set. For that they turned to Samsara, who took their best carry-on bag and transformed it into an “un-carrier on” that’s even better than the original.

Pretty in Pink

Before you even unbox the Un-carrier On, you’ll know that this is no normal suitcase. The packaging box, like the bag itself, is an eye-searing shade of T-Mobile magenta. That shade continues in the interior packaging, the seams of the protective bag surrounded the suitcase, and, yes, the polycarbonate shell of the bag itself.

Even before you incorporate the Un-carry On’s smart features, you’d be hard pressed to lose this bag in a crowd. Absolutely screams “look at me.” If you’re looking to get noticed, or simply find your bag more easily in a sea of black and silver luggage, this is the one to get.

Air Tag and More

Like Samsara’s Tag Smart line of suitcases, the limited edition Un-carrier On has a secure holder for an included Apple AirTag. Thankfully, it doesn’t carry any logos or icons so you won’t trigger your OCD trying to get the Air Tag level in the holder. Just activate it and pair it with your iPhone, then place it in the holder and secure it in place.

In addition to the Air Tag holder, Samsara includes a T-Mobile-branded battery pack that’s capable of wireless charging. It fits into a spring-loaded slot under the extendable handle. It’s a design I’ve seen in other smart bags and is far superior to their previous, in-bag solution. Even better, the battery pack sits next to a very accommodating smartphone slot. Slide your Qi-compatible device into the slot, turn on the battery pack, and you can top your phone off without wires. It fit my iPhone 14 Pro Max without a problem, although it’s a little loose for phones without cases. If you’re going to use it with any consistency, you might want to pop a case on for a tighter fit.

The Un-carrier On retains all the design elements that make Samsara bags some of the best in the business: the shelf-like top, smooth-rolling wheels, dual combination latches, and an eight bag packing set. The bags, too, are T-Mobile branded (just in case you forget while looking at the T-Mobile bag liner).

The Perfect Match

The Un-carrier On is the best bag I’ve seen from Samsara. It has all the benefits of a regular Samsara suitcase, plus Air Tag tracking, plus an all-new battery charging setup. The color is unconventional but then that’s the point. If you don’t mind standing out in the crowd, then this is the carry-on to get.

T-Mobile has a site dedicated to the Un-carrier On and their new expanded travel coverage. There, you can pre-order the bag for $325, $30 less than Samsara’s Tag Smart bags (which don’t include power banks). It’s a great deal on an even better bag for your journeys ahead. The Un-carrier On is expected to ship in late November.
