This afternoon, an out-of-control wildfire erupted at Oast Park Golf Course in Snodland, Kent, threatening the RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre.

At around 2.30pm the flames ripped through the former golf course in the Sandhole area, just off Malling Road, right next to the center housing animals rescued from cruelty and neglect.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Attending a fire involving trees and undergrowth at Oast Park Golf Club in Sandy Lane Drive, Snodland.

‘Nine fire engines currently at the scene and crews are working to extinguish the flames and prevent any fire spread.’

Firefighters are currently drawing water from a nearby home in an attempt to put out the fire.

The RSPCA center posted on their Facebook: ‘We have been receiving lots of calls from the public regarding the fire behind our site, and whether we need help.

‘Firefighters are currently tackling the fire and all the animals and staff are safe.’

This is one of several fires that have occurred over the weekend, with nine fire engines also currently battling a blaze in Lambsfrith Grove, Gillingham.

Yesterday, firefighters battled yet another fire on Dartford Heath, the fifth in a month.

Toxins and fumes will be present for several days, according to the warning.

On Saturday, crews and ten fire engines responded to a crop fire in Oxenturn Road, Wye, Ashford.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has responded to over 400 grass fires and wildfires this year.
