A STRING of charities enjoyed some Christmas cheer thanks to the generosity of members at Royal Dornoch Golf Club.
During their terms as captains, Willie Mackay and Alison Bartlett selected various causes to benefit from various fundraisers at the club.
Cancer support charity Maggie’s received £11,825, Macular Disease (£980), Cerebral Palsy (£1,900), Epilepsy Action Scotland (£5,500), and Sight Action (£6,480).
General manager Neil Hampton said: “Members have, as ever, been very generous and it is fantastic that so many charities are being supported.
“The funds were raised primarily at member weekends held in May and October, but several other events also contributed to the Captains’ Charity Fund.
“Inevitably, our fundraising suffered during the pandemic and restrictions imposed on international travel. But members from near and far have been very supportive since the return to normality.”
New captains, Professor David Bell and Wilma Murray, will be supporting Maggie’s and Kayleigh’s Wee Stars during their term in office.
Earlier this year, Royal Dornoch distributed £12,000 from the club’s Community Fund to around 20 local groups and charities.
