Rochester Golf

During the past two Wednesday 9 hole events the club ran the inaugural white course winter championship, where the best stableford points total would be declared the winner.

Leading scores after the first week were recorded by Graeme Chapple and Wayne Williams (24), next best were Garry Charrnas (22), Robert Vise and Alex McQuabban (21), Laurie Jackel and Peter Anderson both on (20). After another good round of 24 points Charnas was declared the winner by two points for a total of 46 Stableford points from an unlucky Vise who followed up with 23 over the front 9.

On Friday the ladies held their last competition for the year, playing an ambrose event followed by lunch. Louise Williams, Cheryl Hicks and Julie Leahy won with their good score of 75-11.85= 63.15. followed by the 2 ladies team of Kaz Taylor and Marg Knight net 74.75 and Helen Ingram and Jenny Major net 79. Julie Leahy was closest on 5 while Williams cleaned up for her shots on the 3rd, 8th and 16th.

After Saturday’s heavy rain around noon the stableford event was postponed to Sunday. Unfortunately, more rain arrived as players were changing over 9s from the white tees, Bruce Bryant, Lee Hicks and Des Gallagher after shooting 17 Stableford points were then declared equal winners.

The usual 9-hole Wednesday social golf assembly 9am starts a busy week, followed by the popular MND Charity day on Friday, September 23, as this is 4-person any combination Ambrose event, get your teams together for this great family day, hit off from 1am until noon.

The club will be running Sunday events from next week the first is scheduled for September 25, hit off from 10.30am-11am for men and ladies and visitors are most welcome, especially from those players whose courses have been impacted by the continuous wet weather.

It is during such heavy rain events experienced during the past six months the club looks back at that important decision made in the 1980s to move out to the superb loam soil at Blackculvert Rd after three years of canceled tournaments and day plays because of the wet conditions at the old course.

Elmore Golf

Twenty-one brave golfers braved the cold and wet elements for the final competition day and the final round of the Rochester Tires event. Winner of the day was Luke Price with 31 points, Runner up was Mac Whittle with 27 points on a countback from Tyler Oliver, and Jeff Trewick. NTP’s on the 10th Rod Whittle, on the 4th Tyler Oliver, on the 6th Mac Whittle and the super pin was Mitch Whittle. Congratulations to Sam McLeod on winning the Rochester Tires award with 41 points, runner-up was Nick Gibbs with 32 points. Congratulations also to Luke Price winning the Match Play Championship from Jeff Trewick on the 18th.

Next week is the final day for season 2022, play will be Ambrose any combination three or four to a team, followed by a barbecue and presentations of all annual awards. All past and present players and families are very welcome.

Chicken Run winner was Sam McLeod, runner-up was Bruce Rasmussen. Novelty winners were Count putts Sam McLeod, longest drive Tony Barnes, longest putt Tom Carbonon, NTP No 4 Bruce Rasmusen, No 6 and 8 Sam McLeod.

Ladies had a beautiful day for golf playing Stableford winner for the day was Lorna Wilson. Next Wednesday will be a 9 hole event followed by a shared lunch, hope to see past members joining in.

Lockington Golf

Jason Wakefield is the 2022 Lockington Golf Club Handicap Matchplay Champion, after he scored a hard-fought 2 and 1 win over Trav Mancer, played in atrocious weather conditions on Saturday. Jason took an early lead and was never headed, but Trav pushed him all the way, his round highlighted by a remarkable birdie on the 6th.

Steve Holt and Grant Humbert took on Terry Thomas and Ian Haines to play off for the digits competition, but the match was called a tie after 12 holes, with all four drenched golfers walking off the course. The rest of the field played 9 holes before calling it quits for the day.

The day did finish with a bang, however, as golfers enjoyed the 60th birthday party of our much-loved and respected Captain Mark Lyons, together with his family and friends in the clubhouse on Saturday night.

Bamawm golf

Friday was a special day for our club with 23 pairs playing in a 4BBB for “TJ” Day.

Winners of the day with 48 points were Adam and Ziva Shawcross, runners up on 47 points were Andrew Cochrane and Chris Hinks. Ball comp winners Adam Sims and Michael Dobson, Jeff Carnie and Ian Scurrah, Grant Humbert and Tavis Mancer.

It was great to see so many of Terry’s family and friends come and join us for dinner and a few drinks.

Sunday saw a small field play in a stableford round. Winners of the day were Neville Vicary (men’s) 29 points and Mel Warren (ladies) 29 points.

Longest Drive: Neville Vicary (men), Mel Warren (ladies) and NTP 7/16: Neville Vicary. Next week will be a stroke round, hit off from 11am.
