Game notes: The Tigers will close out their series with the Padres with an early start and a game that will only be available to watch on Peacock.

It could be a challenging matchup for the Tigers as the Padres have Joe Musgrove on the mound, who’s been one of the best pitchers in baseball lately. Musgrove has a 6-0 record and a 2.05 ERA in his last seven starts. Narrowing that down further, Musgrove has only allowed two runs in his last three starts while racking up 25 strikeouts. While Musgrove has been extra impressive lately, he’s really been good all year. He’s put together a 9-2 record and a 3.16 ERA in 15 starts this year. He missed the first few weeks of the season with a toe injury but has been dominant since returning.

Meanwhile, the Tigers hinted on Saturday that Alex Faedo would be the likely starter and confirmed as much Sunday morning. Faedo has been recovering from a finger injury and looked great in his one rehab start with Triple-A Toledo recently. As the Tigers bring Tarik Skubal along slowly in his recovery from flexor tendon surgery, they decided to bring up Faedo for the start, even though Skubal would be up in the typical five-man pitching rotation.
