Report: LIV Golf League in TV deal talks with surprise network

LIV Golf captured the golf world’s attention in 2022, but mainly for what was happening off the course.

There were just so many different storylines that were developing.

First we had Phil Mickelson. Where had he gone for three months? Was his career over?

Now he’s back and this week appeared to belittle the PGA Tour again.

Elsewhere, LIV slowly but surely signed player after player from their rival.

Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith joined Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. More are expected to follow.

Just one thing LIV promised but has yet to deliver is a TV deal.

Next month they will kick off their second season – now dubbed the LIV Golf League – in Mexico.

There were reports that LIV were close to striking a deal with Fox Sports towards the end of last year it has all gone quiet.

Have talks fizzled out?

Apparently, the golf circuit was prepared to pay the network an exorbitant sum of money to get its tournaments aired, but that is hardly surprising.

LIV was previously unable to reach deals with NBC, CBS, Disney, Apple and Amazon.

Some executives were reportedly concerned about the “toxic” nature of LIV given the constant references to the fact that the tour is backed by Saudi Arabia and their vast wealth fund.

LIV Golf commissioner Greg Norman has constantly had to fight off accusations of sports washing.

Norman, 67, once again pointed out the “deafening hypocrisy” with regards to this earlier in the week.

But there is no denying LIV and Norman are desperate to get their product on TV in a bid to reach new viewers.

Earlier in the month it was reported that they were considering giving away the rights for free in the UK This has not come to fruition either.

Sports Business Journal are reporting that LIV are close again to finding a suitor.

The publication reports the CW Network is now the frontrunner to televise the upcoming season.

We’ll have to take this with a pinch of salt because the channel doesn’t have any other sports programming.

If this doesn’t pan out then LIV are fast running out of options to be on air at all.
