Reliance Jio held 36.23% of the market share in terms of mobile subscribers as of July end; it was followed by Bharti Airtel at 31.66%, Vodafone Idea at 22.22%, while the two state-owned entities BSNL and MTNL held the least share at 9.64% and 0.24% respectively.
Private telcos held a 90.12% market share whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two state-owned telecom providers, had a market share of only 9.88% at the time as of July 31, 2022.
Total wireless subscribers in India increased from 1.147 billion at the end of June to 1.148 billion at the end of July, a month-month growth of 0.06%. Wireless subscriptions in urban areas increased from 625.49 million at the end of last month to 626.74 million at the end of July; however, wireless subscriptions in rural areas decreased from 521.90 million to 521.29 million during the same period. Monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscriptions were 0.20% and -0.12% respectively, according to Trai data.
The total broadband subscribers increased from 800.94 million at the end of June-22 to 807.42 million at the end of July-22 with a monthly growth rate of 0.81%.
Top five service providers constituted 98.42% market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of July-22. These service providers were Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (422.23 million), Bharti Airtel (222.12 million), Vodafone Idea (122.98 million), BSNL (25.25 million) and Atria Convergence (2.13 million), Trai said.
Jio dominates the broadband internet market, holding 52.29%; it is followed by Bharti Airtel with 27.51%, Vodafone Idea with 15.23% and BSNL with 3.13% of the overall customers.
