In our latest edition of rounding up MLB rumors from around the league, we take a look at some swirling around the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Dansby Swanson, and Carlos Rodon.
MLB rumors: Could Boston Red Sox be looking at a pair of trades?
According to this article from MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Red Sox have a pair of potential trade candidates in Bobby Dalbec and Rafael Devers.
Devers is the most interesting and polarizing of the two names, especially in the wake of Boston losing Xander Bogaerts in free agency to the San Diego Padres. Feinsand writes that the 26-year-old Devers “is said to be seeking more than $300 million, and according to a source, Boston’s early offers are well short of that total,” something that Red Sox fans have heard way too much in recent days with the Bogaerts loss.
Could Boston be heading for another messy breakup with one of its infield stars?
MLB rumors: Gleyber Torres a New York Yankees trade candidate as well?
In the same article, Feinsand believes that, if “Oswald Peraza and/or Anthony Volpe get a chance to break camp with the Yankees this spring,” Torres could find himself as the odd man out in the Bronx.
After slashing .257/.310/.451 with 24 homers and 76 RBI last season, Torres is under team control through 2025 and could potentially be an attractive trade piece if the Yankees are looking to bulk up their roster on the mound (starter or reliever).
If the Yankees land Carlos Rodon and if either of the prospects above aren’t ready for their MLB spotlight, perhaps Torres stays with New York. If not, the two-time All-Star might be on the move.
And the Yankees may have less competition for Rodon than originally thought with the St. Louis Cardinals reportedly out of the race for his services.
MLB rumors: Don’t count Atlanta Braves out of Dansby Swanson sweepstakes
MLB insider Jon Heyman has tweeted that, with all of the rumors flying around about Swanson’s next landing spot, people shouldn’t count out a return to the Braves just yet.
Atlanta has had Swanson on the roster for the last seven seasons, but could be ready to move on from the All-Star and Gold Glove winner with Vaughn Grissom as an internal possibility to replace him at shortstop. Plenty of teams, including a potential NL Central battle between the Cardinals and Chicago Cubs, are interested in Swanson, and the Braves could be working against the deep-pocketed Dodgers for the 28-year-old who is the final of the four big- name free agent shortstops available.
Swanson could be in line for a bigger-than-thought payday based on what Bogaerts, Carlos Correa, and Trea Turner have landed this offseason. Are the Braves ready to pay to keep him?
