Siri has become a convenient tool for iPhone users for years, but it seems to be not helpful when broadcasting an MLB game.
During the second game of Boston’s doubleheader against Tampa Bay Saturday, Red Sox radio broadcaster Joe Castiglione announced Rays catcher Jose Siri up to bat.
“So first and second, still only one out for Jose Siri,” Castiglione said.
Apparently, someone’s iPhone in the booth picked up on Castiglione saying Siri, and responded to the long-time announcer saying the catcher’s name. To talk to Siri on an iPhone, it typically responds to “Hey Siri” or “Siri.”
The booth then erupted in laughter.

“Wait a minute, did you hear that?” said Will Flemming, Castiglione’s broadcast partner.
“I don’t know where that came from,” Castiglione said.
Once Castiglione realized what happened, he made sure to let the iPhone feature know he wasn’t speaking to it.
“I’m not asking you, Siri,” Castiglione said. “Not this Siri. That Siri.”
Flemming said on Twitter the technological mishap was “an all-time moment.”
