Sri Lankan actor and former MP Ranjan Ramanayake has begun a special program to distribute laptops to school children in need.
In a live video on social media, Ramanayake said that nearly 500 laptops had been donated during his stay in the US to perform in musical programs over the last three months.
He revealed that the laptops had been donated by the Sri Lankan community residing in the US, including business persons and ordinary citizens.
Ranjan Ramanayake pointed out that it has come to his knowledge that several persons were attempting to defraud the public by circulating false advertisements in connection to the laptop distribution.
Refuting reports and fake advertisements on social media claiming that the laptops are for sale, the former MP said that the laptops are being distributed by him free of charge.
Ramanayake also revealed that he intends to travel to various other countries, including Japan, Italy, New Zealand, South Korea, and Indonesia in the future to perform and expects to receive more laptops for distribution.
The former MP also requested children who are in need of laptops to make an official request in writing along with a recommendation from the school principal and contact him via his official Facebook page and obtain the laptops.
Ramanayake also added that the official request letters for laptops can be forwarded to his WhatsApp number 0773624927.
Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake cannot engage in active politics at present as President Ranil Wickremesinghe has only granted him a conditional pardon over his prison sentence for contempt of court. (NewsWire)
