PTA wants mobile tower shifted from school premises

Team Herald

PONDA: Even as the panicked Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Government Primary School (GPS) premises at Bhedshem, Talavalim has been running from pillar to demand that a mobile tower be shifted from the school complex, the mobile company literally determined to go ahead with the work has roped in the government machinery and started the work of laying the foundation stone for erecting the tower at the controversial spot with police protection. The mamlatdar too was present to maintain law and order.

The PTA members argued that it was a health hazard and opposed it tooth and nail.

Parents of the GPS had already demanded that the tower be shifted from the school premises and warned that they had no option but would be forced to remove the children from the school if the authorities continued to go ahead with the tower.

Parents of the Mahalaxmi HS said that they were not against the tower but at the same time said it should be far away from the school premises and directed the management to immediately submit a letter to the Chief Minister who is also Education Minister, PWD Minister, Director of Education, Deputy Collector, ADEI Ponda and Sarpanch of Wadi Talavalim to inform the authorities about the opposition to the tower.

The parents were upset that instead of paying attention to their demand, the mobile company adamantly continued to lay the foundation for the mobile tower.

The PTA at a meeting held at the school premises unanimously resolved to shift the mobile tower coming up in the premises of GPS.
