ProGrade Digital has announced the new PGM0.5 mobile card reader. It features dual SD and microSD slots that it says produces comparable performance to its full-size readers but is much smaller and better able to support mobile creators.
The super-small memory card reader is designed to work in laptops as well as tablets and mobile devices and boasts transfer rates up to 5Gb/s (625 MB/s). The PGM0.5 allows users to download content to devices like Android smartphones or newer iPads.
“A new wave of content creators has emerged over the last couple of years, driven strongly by sharing platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. A large portion of these creators are operating in a highly mobile environment, utilizing a variety of devices such as smartphones, tablets, and lightweight laptops for video editing along with powerful new editing software applications. Content capture devices, used by these creators, include high-resolution action cameras, drones, and mirrorless cameras. The majority of the content captured on these devices is stored on SD and microSD memory cards. To better support these users, we have developed our new dual-slot SD/microSD card reader (PGM0.5) that can provide a highly portable, high-speed way to import all of this content directly into mobile editing platforms at a very affordable new price point”, says Wes Brewer, CEO and founder of ProGrade Digital.
As a USB 3.2 Type-C connector, it can be inserted into a host device facing either direction and while only one slot works at a time when it is connected to a tablet or smartphone, both can be used simultaneously when it is plugged into a laptop
The PGM0.5 allows creators who generally work on tablets like the iPad to treat the device more like a laptop’s workflow. Once footage is captured, it can be edited on an iPad through an app like LumaFusion, which has been confirmed to support the interface seamlessly.
“The Creator Community, at its heart, is a community of storytellers. And not a day goes by that the team at LumaTouch doesn’t marvel at the stories created by this community. This is what inspired us to design LumaFusion the way we did, and to create a visceral, enjoyable, fluid editing experience for our customers,” Chris Demiris, Co-Founder and Director of Engineering for LumaTouch, says.
“The development team at LumaTouch has been testing the new ProGrade Digital PGMO.5 mobile card reader, and it’s clear to us that they share the same inspiration. ProGrade Digital has created an effective camera-to-timeline workflow for mobile devices that works in perfect harmony with LumaFusion. We’re excited to see how LumaFusion customers who shoot on DSLRs, drones, or GoPro’s react to this seamless mobile workflow.”
The Prograde Digital PGM0.5 memory card reader is available for $35.
