Thursday will be Marvel Trivia Night as the Red Raiders (1-1-0) close out their three-game home stand. Tech will kick start a three-game road swing Sunday.
Tech is looking to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Arizona. The Red Raiders outshot Arizona 17-6 but were unable to find the back of the net. Tech is notorious for not losing more than one game in a row. Since 2018, there have only been two instances in which the Red Raiders lost consecutive matches (2021 – at Baylor and at Texas; 2020 – vs No. 9 WVU and at No. 6 TCU). Tech has not lost back-to-back home matches since 2017.
Scouting the Lobos
New Mexico (1-1-0) earned both the Mountain West regular season and tournament championship last season. The Lobos have split their two matchups this season – falling 1-0 to No. 6 Rutgers and downing CSU-Bakersfield 4-2.
New Mexico is led offensively by senior Jadyn Edwards. Edwards recorded a hat trick against CSU-Bakersfield while Lelani Baker capped off the scoring.
Quick Hitters
- This season marks the 15th season that the Red Raiders have been playing at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech is just two wins shy of its 100th win at the Walker.
- Macy Blackburn was the Red Raiders lone Preseason All-Big 12 selection. The defender led the squad with nine assists last season and racked up Big 12 All-Freshman Team, Midwest All-Region Second Team and the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Freshman Second Team honors.
- After leading the team with nine assists a year ago, Blackburn picked up right where she left off, tallying two against Troy in the opener.
- Texas Tech was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll. The Red Raiders were slated behind TCU, Texas and West Virginia.
- The Red Raiders lost the team’s leading scorer from a year ago Kirsten Davis. However, the team does return its second leading scorer (Ashley Williams), assists leader (Blackburn) and saves leader (Madison White).
- White enters the season ranked fifth in Tech’s career goals against record (0.95), fourth in career shutouts (18) and seventh in career saves (142).
- The Red Raiders boast a young roster with the addition of 10 freshmen. Freshman Kylie Bahr is the only freshmen to have started both games so far this season.
- Bahr also etched her name into the Texas Tech Soccer beep test record. The freshman broke a 15-year-old fitness test record.
- This season’s captains are super seniors Charlotte Teeter and fourth-year senior Hannah Anderson. Teeter opened up her last season with a goal in the opener against Troy.
- The Red Raider backline and goalie Madison White have allowed just eight shots so far this season, only three of which have been on goal.
