The Premier Soccer League is mourning the death of its marketing and broadcast specialist advisor Peter ‘Squire’ Mencer who died on January 2.
Paying tribute to his confidante, chairman of Orlando Pirates FC and the Premier Soccer League Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza, described Mencer, whose age was not disclosed, as a man of outstanding pedigree.

“When I think of Squire, I think of pedigree, [as] he was one of a kind [who was] dependable, tenacious, [and with an] abundance of energy. His word was bankable,” Khoza said of the man who often drove him around.
“We express our sincere condolences to the Mencer family. Your loss is indeed our loss. Together with you, we will miss the gentle giant – Mencer the dancer.”

The league sends its heartfelt condolences to the Mencer family and the football community at large, said a statement issued by the league spokesperson Fhatuwani Mpfuni.
The Mencer family is expected to announce the funeral arrangements in due course and a moment of silence will be observed at all league matches of the DStv Premiership, the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the Nedbank qualification matches, and the DStv Diski Challenge fixtures.
