TOON SET TO SHELL OUT TRIPLE FIGURES TO SECURE SWEDISH STAR
Newcastle United have threatened but never quite followed through on any of their big-money targets.
Until now.
The Athletic reports Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak will undergo a medical with the Magpies ahead of an eye-watering $AUD101 million move to Tyneside.
Should the move go ahead, Isak would easily become Newcastle’s record signing and overtake Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who arrived at the club in January.
The Swede is highly regarded as one of the hottest prospects in football and has 33 goals in 105 La Liga appearances to his name.
He would contend for the starting striker position with English international Callum Wilson and Kiwi star Chris Wood.
MAN UTD OFFERED CHANCE TO DOUBLE DIP, BUT AJAX STAR STILL THE MAIN MAN
Could Manchester United go for a cheeky transfer double dip?
Fresh after signing defensive midfielder Casemiro, the Red Devils have reportedly been offered the chance to snap up Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.
According to two The Telegraphthe Spaniard is available for just $42 million.
Although United may consider the 26-year-old, the report claims they still have Ajax winger Antony as the number one target.
The Red Devils have seen every offer for the Brazilian rejected by the Dutch giants, but The Telegraph claims they will return with a staggering offer of $142 million which could prove too good to turn down.
However, Ajax aren’t under any financial pressure to sell and could easily reject United’s next offer.
This one looks like it’ll go down to the wire.
FOURTH TIME’S THE CHARM FOR FOFANA AS BLOCKBUSTER REUNION TAKES POSITIVE TURN
Chelsea are desperate to bring Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana to the club, so much so that they could end up breaking the transfer fee record for a defender.
The Telegraph claims the Blues will lodge a fourth bid for Fofana after a third offer of $118 million was rejected.
Despite being fully fit, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has consigned Fofana to training with the under-23’s after he failed to show up for a training session.
If things weren’t spicy enough already, Chelsea play Leicester this weekend and Fofana’s future will no doubt cast a looming shadow over the fixture.
Thankfully for Chelsea, they do look likely to complete another deal at the other end of the pitch.
According to the same report, confidence is growing at Stamford Bridge that a deal to bring Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the club can be done.
Aubameyang moved to the Spanish giants in the January window from Arsenal, but with Barcelona’s well-documented financial problems coupled with the arrival of star striker Robert Lewandowski, the Gabon international could find his playing time limited this season.
He’s no stranger to Thomas Tuchel with the two working together at Borussia Dortmund, could a reunion be the necessary spark they both need?
RED DEVILS EYE FORMS NEWCASTLE NO.1 TWO PLUG GOALKEEPING HOLE
Manchester United’s goalkeeping stocks aren’t exactly filled to the brim.
David de Gea is the starting goalkeeper but hasn’t quite inspired the masses with his displays this season and Tom Heaton signed on to be a third-choice goalkeeper but now finds himself as the back-up.
However, the Red Devils have narrowed the crosshairs on a potential back-up.
Sky Sports reports United have held talks with Newcastle over the signing of Martin Dubravka.
The Slovakian had been the Magpies’ first choice goalkeeper for several years but the arrival of Nick Pope has condemned him to a spot on the bench.
Tellingly, Dubravka didn’t make Eddie Howe’s squad for Newcastle’s EFL Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers.
MAUPAY IN LINE FOR MERSEYSIDE SWITCH
With star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the sidelines and Salomon Rondon failing to inspire as a replacement, Everton are in dire need of attacking reinforcements.
And according to The Athleticit looks like they might just get what they need, as the Toffees are now in the lead for the race to sign Brighton’s Neal Maupay in a $23 million deal.
Maupay has been the subject of heavy interest from promoted duo Nottingham Forest and Fulham, but Everton have shot to the front of the queue, with the Frenchman reportedly holding talks with Frank Lampard about a potential move to Goodison Park.
The Brighton star is yet to make an appearance for the Seagulls this season and would add plenty of fire to any frontline, but he has often struggled to convert from the many chances he gets.
