Police arrest 6 thieves, recover 33 high-end mobiles

PANJIM: The Goa police arrested six thieves in the State and recovered 33 high-end mobile phones, all valued at Rs 6.90 lakh from their possession. In the first case, the four accused hailed from Karnataka, the other two accused were from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

In Panjim, the police arrested Manjunath Prasanna Jadhav, 38, Dharwad, Mahesh Satappa Kale, 31, Hubli, Rohit Sitaram Jadhav, 20, Dharwad and Isha Rangappa Bhoi, 35 from Karwar and recovered 15 state-of-the art mobile handsets- all worth around Rs 2.40 lakh from their possession.

The city police swung into action when a native of Uttar Pradesh lodged a complaint with them stating that an unknown accused stole his cell phone on December 31 evening at the KTC bus stand The cops then swooped down on the quartet, arrested them and recovered the stolen booty. Police stated that the above accused were habitual offenders and previously involved in several theft cases in Karnataka.

In another case, the Panjim Police arrested an employee of a delivery chain for allegedly robbing mobile phones and valuables worth Rs 3 lakh.

A complaint in this connection was filed by Francis Afonso, representative of InstaKart Services Pvt Ltd alleging that between September and December 26, 2022, the accused Utsab Phanindra Jana, resident of Vodlem Bhat, Taleigao and a native of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal who was working as a delivery boy stole cell phones and other valuables from the storeroom at Gera’s Imperium Green in Panjim.

The accused Jana was arrested under Section 381 of the IPC and recovered 12 mobile phones, two smart watches, a trimmer and other valuables from his possession.

In Mapusa, the police arrested Sadiq Hussain, 29, a native of Balarampur, Uttar Pradesh for theft and recovered six android smart phones valued at Rs 1.50 lakh from his possession.

The accused has been booked under section 379 and 201 of the IPC.

A team led by Mapusa PI Paresh Naik was instrumental in nabbing the alleged accused.
